North Florida Home Show this weekend has most exhibits ever

Florida home show, new home build, civic center

Everything new for the home will be on display starting Friday when the 2014 North Florida Home Show opens at the Civic Center.
Builders, product manufacturers and suppliers will showcase their newest and best during the three-day event that Bob Snyder, president of event promoter East Coast Shows Inc., says has more exhibits than it has ever had.
“In 22 years this is the first time I have ever been sold out this early. We were sold out two weeks ago,” Snyder said of the 210 booths that were reserved by companies and agencies. “The economy is coming back in a lot of areas. Building is back.”
“I am really excited over the fact that we’ve got all those people,” Snyder added.
Among the displays will be innovations in new homes, landscaping, pools, lawn care, home additions and more.

Besides new construction, there will be exhibits on remodeling, security, home furnishings, lighting, air-conditioning systems, kitchens, floor coverings, pools and spas, solar technology and telecommunications products.

Among the suppliers are vendors for electrical products, doors, windows, roofing materials, brick, tile, appliances, plumbing, siding, decks and home entertainment systems.

For those considering a home purchase, Realtors and lenders will be available to answer questions about the process and how to apply for a mortgage.

Rick May, owner of May Day Landscape Supply in Tallahassee, has two booth spaces reserved and will have synthetic turf grass on display, as well as various hardscape products for patios, pool decks, arbors and other outdoor spaces.

“It’s been a big thing for us, the Home Show,” May said. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s well worth it.”
The benefit of contractors participating extends beyond the event itself, May noted. “We are still generating business off of last year. In fact, we just closed on a contract last week with a client who we meet last year.”

Stan Derzypolski, owner of the construction company 3 Rivers Inc., is chair of the Tallahassee Builders Association’s Member & Consumer Education Committee, which coordinates the TBA’s Home Show activity.
“I think this year it’s really important because of the economy trying to turn around,” he said of exhibiting. For many builders and potential customers, the show is the best place to make contacts, ask questions and see building methods and materials close up.
“We are finding that there are a lot more people who are planning to renovate, remodel or build,” Derzypolski said. Some might be homeowners who realize they need to update their residences with a renovation project, a new interior or the latest furnishings.

“Interest rates are still really low and that’s another incentive for people to do something now,” he added.

Snyder predicts an even higher attendance than the typical 3,500 to 4,500 people for the three days – perhaps topping 5,000. He sees a changing real estate market and construction recovery adding to both the participation and the public’s interest in the event.

And consumers will have plenty to see. “We’re pretty much everything from roof to foundation,” Snyder said.
